ASSOCIATION-QC MEETINGS
HEARING LOSS ASSOCIATION-Quiet Corner meetings are held in the Ashford Senior Housing Community
room, a handicapped accessible building. The Meeting Room is on the first floor.
The Babcock Library, located
on the second floor of the Town Hall building, sponsors HEARING LOSS ASSOCIATION-QUIET CORNER and lends to us a
computer assisted note taker (similar to a CART system) which projects on a large screen what is being said. Our Secretary
types whatever is being said and everyone can read it while the speaker is talking. The letters are 3" high, allowing for
easier reading. The meeting transcript is saved on a disk and used to prepare our monthly minutes.
We also use a microphone
placed just a few inches lower than the speaker's mouth so we can also speech read.
Some meetings have a sign language
interpreter, if requested. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ FUN AND FELLOWSHIP ARE PART
OF THE HEARING LOSS ASSOCIATION-QC-EXPERIENCE
Coffee and pastries are available during our mid-meeting break. Take
this time to make new friends and join them at a near-by restaurant for lunch after the meeting to continue your conversations,
if you like. Come and enjoy our picnic during the summer and our Christmas Party in December. And often, there are home made
jams, jellies and other items for sale to benefit our treasury. Our members have various hearing problems and challenges.
Some are planning to get their first hearing aid(s), several have Cochlear Implants, and still others use Assistive Hearing
devices, such as FM Transmitters. All are willing to share their views on the pros and cons of the current technology, and
are eager to have you share your experiences and offer suggestions on different ways in which you might better cope with your
hearing difficulties.
